Top Spots for Wine in Orange County

As a self proclaimed Wine-O, it’s safe to assume I will be celebrating National Wine Day tomorrow, May 25, with a glass of wine in hand. Over the years I have been seen wine tasting both near and far; whether it’s local in Orange County, Temecula wine country, or the rolling hills of the Chianti region in Tuscany, Italy. But unfortunately we can’t just hop on a plane to another country just to celebrate National Wine Day, sigh. However, the following are a few of the best places in Orange County to enjoy a glass of wine, or two.

Five Vines in San Juan Capistrano. Located right off of Camino Capistrano, this is the perfect place to sit outside and chat with friends. Enjoy a glass of wine or try one of their wine flights, which offers a tasting of three wines, either preselected or create your own. Five Vines offers an amazing selection of small bites and appetizers to snack on while you enjoy wine, fellow company and the overall friendly atmosphere.

The Cellar is located on the popular shopping and dining street Avenida Del Mar in San Clemente. With a dark, wine cellar atmosphere, the second you walk in you are sure to be in the mood for some wine. The Cellar has one of the most delicious cheese and charcuterie boards I have ever tasted. Enjoy a cheese board and some wine, then head down to the San Clemente Pier and watch the sunset.

Tanner’s Treehouse Huntington Beach. Although Tanner’s is not specifically a wine bar, if you want to enjoy a glass overlooking Pacific Coast Highway and the ocean, this is the place for you. The trendy decor features a circular bar designed to imitate a tree trunk, there are chairs that suspend from the ceiling, and couches surrounding firepits overlooking Huntington. If you are looking for the most insta-worthy spot, it is definitely here.

Wine Lab Costa Mesa is at The CAMP, which is known for its hipster feel. At the Wine Lab you can expect your wine flights to arrive in test tubes, because you are “testing” the wine at the “lab.” I tried one of the best Chilean reds here and highly suggest always ordering a flight so you can discover new favorites. Cheese, charcuterie boards and other light appetizers are available to snack on while you taste away.
